STAY ON THE TRAILS!

Postby jimfoo » Wed Jul 11, 2007 7:07 am

Got this from Dave Garbs after he went to pre-run rally trails. Poughkeepsie Gulch is closed due to a Hummer group going off trail recently and damaging the area. This was going to be one of our rally trails.
I can't stress just how important it is to ALWAYS stay on the trail!!
Edit: Misunderstanding- The trail was "closed" because of snow, but it wasn't technically closed.

Pete,

Any information on what they did? Any chance that the trail will reopen by the rally? Anything from the club standpoint that we could do to help re-open the trail?

Dave.

Just got off the phone. Dave G. got the info from the VP of the Western Slope 4x4.
However Mike Hansen did just run the trail this past weekend. MH is out of town at the moment.
Neal and Barry are supposed to be running the trail this coming weekend so we will see what they have to report.

The FS has the name of the Hummer club, who will eventually get the bill. Sounds like the Western Slope 4-wheelers are taking care of the damage, so hats off to them!!! Sounds like it's closed for the season from what the FS said though as I just called them. Western Slope is the one who closed the trail however. I will call them and find the status.

Ack. This was the hardest trail in the southern section isn't it? We can do Mineral Creek all the way to Animas Forks and then back west via California and Corkscrew. Maybe reverse that, going UP corkscrew? This is not a show stopper for us. We have a good healthy list of trails available.

Just got off phone with WS4-wheelers. Trail IS open. Damage was done to grass above the hard section. It sounds like the mud is in the trail, so it has moved from where it was long ago when I was there, or there is a new muddy section. The damaged section is closed off.
