I hope not. It will be hard to take the Kids out of school for that one.

Is it going to be back at Moab next year? I missed this years, so would love to make it next year.

Word around the campfire was that September was booked at the arena. August was deemed too hot; so October got the nod.

Suits me; August in Moab is too damned hot.

October Sounds Good.

Bad part is having to wait a year and 3 mos. between Rallys but October is great time of year for me to be gone. Are there any weather scenarios thru the pass(Colorado) that time of year? Our usual routine is to stop(Mtns) and do some flyfishing on way out to Moab(October too late for that?).Otherwise it works out better(gives more time to do the last minute mods that I always wait until last minute!)I knew there had been void in my life(it was the never ending banter about upcoming Rally-now this is it!)

I can confirm that the dates for the 2010 Moab Rally will be from the 19th to the 23rd of October 1010. The reason for the rally being later than usual is that the facilities we normally use in Moab were already booked for the month of September.

We are now looking at locations for the 2011 Rally. This will be held in Colorado in July or August. I just found out that I am heading the site selection committee (wasn't looking and got volunteered). We are open to suggestions. The location must have enough different trails, facilities to feed 250 to 350 people and a venue suitable for the vendor event.

If you have questions, ideas or suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks,

2011 Rally

I propose Telluride; there are several places on Mtn. Village that could accomodate the group; parking might be an issue, but could probably be worked out with the town.

Crested Butte is one of the locations we are seriously considering. We have held two rallies there, most recently in 2000. Photos at:

Are you interested in helping scout this location?

I suggested Crested Butte myself. (Must have missed 2000... shocking!) If you need some help, let me know what "scouting" entails. I know one motel owner there is a 4-wheeler himself and might be helpful. But you must know some things from past experience too.

One thought that comes to mind is not to schedule dates too early in July, or Pearl Pass is unlikely to be open yet...

Thanks for the input. Good to know about Pearl Pass.

Scouting involves an occasional trip to the locations we are considering to gain information on local facilities, trails, etc. One of our members from Colorado Springs has a place in CB.

Other locations mentioned so far are Montrose, Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs.

Telluride is too far away from the harder trails and was too small for a larger rally, which is why 07 ended up in Montrose.
Montrose was large enough for the number of attendees, was really a great location for evening events, but the trails were still a long drive. Majority of the hard trails were up in Grand Junction area

That is really the thing to keep in mind. The town has to be large enough to host, and trails need to be no more then 30 minutes away if at all possible.

Breck would allow some of the same trails as Leadville but will mean an increase in drive times. Plus do we want to run the same trail system so soon?
I worry that any of the resort towns would be too expensive, even in the summer.

Unless we can find a town that is large enough with enough trails I can foresee a Moab, Leadville, Moab, Montrose rotation for the Rally

Both Leadville and Montrose work really well, but we could use some variety too. In particular, there are great trails in between (like Schofield, Pearl, Taylor, Italian Ck...) that are too distant to make it onto the regular weekly schedule, but don't work from L. or M. either. Crested Butte would do it.

My first Rally (99?) was in Breck, and the only reason I wouldn't push that too is that Summit County is easily accessible, so we get up there often anyway. Steamboat is a nice place to visit, but there weren't enough interesting trails to make a Rally worthwhile (to me)...

How many trails are easily reachable from Crested Butte?
Need over a dozen in order to supp0rt 150-175 trucks.
